Corinne:What’s behind those lights? The city across the water? Do you know?

Me:Nothing.

Corinne:Really?

Me:Really. See those lights out there? Beyond that is the edge of the world.

Later on…

Corinne:Wow, these mangoes are like an orgasm in my mouth.

Me:Yeah, fruit is a lot better here. You haven’t tasted a strawberry until you’ve tasted a Scottish one!

Corinne:Repeat after me. Scotland is NOT better.

Me:Scotland is better.

Corinne; Repeat after me.

Me:Scotland is better.

Corinne:That’s not fair, I don’t go around saying that America isn’t better.

Me:Well, it’s not.

ReInterpretting My Travel Dream

On Wednesday December 26th 2007 I posted a blog on my myspace blog of a conversation Craig and I had in which I told Craig a dream and he tried to help me interpret it. Craig and I have now been dating for a year and 2 months but at the time we were only good friends, Correction: Bestfriends.

I read the dream again and now that my situation with Craig has changed it all makes a lot more sense to me. I believe that dreams are reflections of real life sometimes and that they can tell the future.

I believe that this Conversation I had with Craig directly predicts a lot of what has happened the Craig and I since our relationship started.

This is the conversation I had in which I told Craig about my dream at the time Craig and I were going through our MSN phase and My screen name was a quote I read in a book and Craig had just created the screen name fusedreality.:

New Desire, at heart I’m faint says:

it was about this Castle and how you said you’d wait till I got there to go visit it with me. I was rowing a boat to the uk

Craig | fusedreality says:

ok…

New Desire, at heart I’m faint says:

and you were sitting on a bench outside the castle waiting for me,

but then I realized that it was winter and all the water around me began to freeze and I got stuck.

So I tried walking on the ice, but I fell through. Under water there was a plane and the sand was made out of money

and a camera came through the hole I fell through, and I grabbed it and you pulled me up and it was 12 midnight on New Years

and we were in the middle of the ocean and we could see fireworks in both the uk and america.

We just stood there on the ice that’s where it ended…

…isn’t that weird?…

Craig | fusedreality says:

just a little bit…pretty cool though.

only one problem

New Desire, at heart I’m faint says:

what?

Craig | fusedreality says:

i wouldn’t put my camera in water to save a life!

At the time Craig had interpreted the dream for me and I’d taken what he’d said at face value:

“Well, the boat and the ice might say how much of an ordeal it’s been for you to try to get here – but how much you’d go to achieve it.

Falling through the ice would be as if you felt that you weren’t going to make it the whole way, but you wanted to try.

Saving you with my camera suggests that you think I’d do what needs to be done to help you through.

and fireworks show success and happiness”

Now that Its been years since I wrote this and now that I have experienced many hardships I feel that it really means this.

I’ve been trying for the longest time to get to Craig and”The Castle” in Scotland. The journey to Scotland has been a struggle, that’s why the character that is me is rowing a boat instead of taking a plane or cruising over in a motorboat. Many obstacles have come in my way of getting to Scotland over the years such as my mother’s wishes for me to stay near her, and illness . Even though I can see my goal so clearly like I can see The Castle and Craig waiting, I have had to stop what i was planning to make changes for my life appropriately. I think that’s what the Ice Means freezing my great progress and plans in their places. Even with the changes I’ve been determined to continue to work toward Scotland even though It was dangerous for me to go alone “My choice to get out of the boat and walk the rest of the way to Craig and the Castle”. Last year I decided to take a trip to Scotland which required me to get on a plane, that’s what I think the Plane underwater means…When I got to Ireland on my trip I was stopped by immigrations and given a really hard time. I was questioned about why I was visiting the country in the first place. I felt overwhelmed when I was integrated by immigrations for no reason what so ever and I felt completely trapped by my situation. I think that is where the falling through the ice and feeling like I was drowning and feeling trapped feeling came is a reflection of my own life. The biggest issue that they found about me just telling them that I was going into the UK for vacation was my lack of money. Money has been a HUGE issue for me and it is the underlining issue while I try to save money to get Craig to come for Christmas this year and now. the money that represents the bottom of the sea is the base of all my issues like it is the base and the bottom of the sea floor, money like the sea floor is always moving and changing hands even though it is hard to see the intricacies of it. Craig rescuing me from my misery is exactly what he ended up doing while I was living in Scotland with him. The one thing that I found that I did constantly while I was there was taking pictures, even the pictures I’ve taken from my time in Scotland sustains me now. I think the camera represents my “way out” I find that I can escape all my problems while looking back at pictures of Craig and I together and thinking of the memories we’ve made where I was happy free and felt safe. Which brings me to the last few points, it being New Years with the fireworks. Craig and I Spent last New Years together and we watched the Fireworks that came from the Castle in the UK. Now that I am having money problems this year Even though I want to spend New Years with Craig we will be spending it at different times in different countries because I can’t afford to buy Craig a plane ticket to come see me. We are apart and will be apart till the ice thaws in the Spring And I will be able to row my boat again I feel that my connection with Craig makes every moment we have apart technically six hours apart makes time stand still and not even matter. Craig and I are going to enjoy the New Year together even though we aren’t together. ME in the US and him in Scotland because we love each other and nothing can get in our way.

I think this version of my dream makes a lot more sense and I’m really surprised that all of this is going on two years after I’d dreamed the dream in the first place.

Christmas Present Wish List Part II

1. More Books:

Something Borrowed – Emily Giffin

Plot: Rachel Miller and Darcy Rhone have been best friends since childhood. They’ve shared birthdays, the horrors of high school and even boyfriends, but while Darcy is the sort of woman who breezes through life getting what she wants when she wants it, Rachel has always played by the rules and watched her stunning best friend steal the limelight. The one thing Rachel’s always had over Darcy is the four-month age-gap which meant she was first to being a teenager, first to drive, first to everything …but now she’s about to be first to thirty. And Darcy still has a charmed life.
On the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Rachel is shocked to find herself questioning the status quo. How come Darcy gets a glamorous job at a PR firm and the perfect boyfriend, while Rachel grinds away at her despised job as an attorney and remains painfully single. Is it just luck? Or, looking back at their friendship and their lives together, is it a bit more complicated than that?
Then an accidental fling complicated everything, and it’s time for Rachel to make a few hard choices. And she’s forced to learn that sometimes true love comes at a price…
My Opinion: Everyone has had a friend that they’ve been jealous of, but Rachel has more problems then most! This is a well written book that most women will relate too, and it contains a gritty, gripping love story too. Well worth a read!
Price: $5.58 at amazon.com

The Help – Kathryn Stockett

Plot: hat perfect timing for this optimistic, uplifting debut novel (and maiden publication of Amy Einhorn’s new imprint) set during the nascent civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., where black women were trusted to raise white children but not to polish the household silver. Eugenia Skeeter Phelan is just home from college in 1962, and, anxious to become a writer, is advised to hone her chops by writing about what disturbs you.
The budding social activist begins to collect the stories of the black women on whom the country club sets relies and mistrusts enlisting the help of Aibileen, a maid who’s raised 17 children, and Aibileen’s best friend Minny, who’s found herself unemployed more than a few times after mouthing off to her white employers.
The book Skeeter puts together based on their stories is scathing and shocking, bringing pride and hope to the black community, while giving Skeeter the courage to break down her personal boundaries and pursue her dreams.
My Opinion: This is a brilliant book, with an unusual plot that is sure to keep you reading! This will definitely be a best seller, and I’ll be keeping my eye out for Kathryn’s next novel. Really worth the read!
Price: $10.00 at amazon.com

The Forgotten Garden – Kate Morton

Plot: In 1913, a little girl arrives in Brisbane, Australia, and is taken in by a dockmaster and his wife. She doesn’t know her name, and the only clue to her identity is a book of fairy tales tucked inside a white suitcase.
When the girl, called Nell, grows up, she starts to piece together bits of her story, but just as she’s on the verge of going to England to trace the mystery to its source, her grandaughter, Cassandra, is left in her care. When Nell dies, Cassandra finds herself the owner of a cottage in Cornwall, and makes the journey to England to finally solve the puzzle of Nell’s origins.
Shifting back and forth over a span of nearly 100 years, this is a sprawling, old-fashioned novel, as well-cushioned as a Victorian country house, replete with family secrets, stories-within-stories, even a maze and a Dickensian rag-and-bone shop. All the pieces don’t quite mesh, but it’s a satisfying read overall, just the thing for readers who like multigenerational sagas with a touch of mystery.
-Mary Ellen Quinn
My Opinion: This book made me cry, laugh and fall in love with the main character, and by the end it feels like you were there every step of the journey. A brilliantly written and very inspiring book!

Wedding Proposals: Not-Quite-Perfect Marriage Proposals of 2009

Wedding Proposals: Not-Quite-Perfect Marriage Proposals of 2009.

It Was a Gas

My fiance planned a trip to a ski resort in Pennsylvania, and had intended to ask me to marry him on a sleigh ride, but a heat wave had melted almost all the snow. He then decided he would just take me on a carriage ride, thinking it was going to be very romantic. NO! The horses started farting! And shedding! We had horsehair in our mouths and could smell farts the whole time. We finished the ride, and Jimmy wanted me to follow him to the edge of the mountain, but because of the rain, everything was muddy, so I said, “No, thanks, I’ll stay over here!” He was so frustrated, he finally just plopped down on his knee right there in the mud and asked me to marry him!

The Houdini of Engagement Rings

Jordan and his family took me out for my birthday dinner at a restaurant that has live music. At one point, the bandleader said, “I hear there’s a birthday in the house tonight! Why don’t you come on up here!” Jordan went with me. After they played “Happy Birthday,” he pulled a tiny ring box out of his pocket, knelt down on one knee, opened it, and…the ring was missing! Jordan’s mother realized she had given him the wrong ring box from her big, overstuffed purse. A few of my friends quickly dumped the contents of her purse onto the table searching for the correct box. Eventually it was found, delivered to Jordan, and he was able to “correctly” propose!

Receipt Fail

My fiance had stopped to pick up the ring on his way home from work. Earlier that day, I had given him the credit card to get gas for his car, and when he got home, I asked him for the receipt so I could put it in our budget. But instead of giving me the gas station receipt, he gave me the ring receipt! I looked at it and smiled, then asked him for the “real” receipt. He just looked at me and said, “No, I didn’t!” and we both laughed. He wasn’t planning on proposing to me for a couple more days because he had a big, romantic day planned, but I told him that it didn’t matter how it happened as long as I got him for the rest of my life!

Thwarted by a Bike

For the first two mornings of our vacation, Nick asked me to get up and take a walk before 8 a.m. — not a good idea in my mind. Finally, I agreed to a morning bike ride to the beach, but the chain kept popping off my bike. Twenty minutes later, we got the chain back on, but we were covered in grease and it was in the 90s, so we were super-hot. I wanted to go home and shower, but Nick insisted we could get the grease off with salt water. Once we got down to the beach, he got down on one knee and proposed. Now the whole thing finally made sense to me!

Just the 2 of Us…and a Bear

We went to hike in the Pocono Mountains for a weekend. Eric decided that the short trail up the mountain was “too short,” so we took the longer one. Hours later, in 95-degree heat and 100-percent humidity, I wasn’t so into this hike anymore. We finally reached the top of the mountain, and just when Eric thought it was a good time to pop the question, we heard people behind us yell, “Bear! Here he comes!” And everyone ran to get away from this huge black bear. After the bear finally went away, Eric decided to continue with his plan and proposed. After the shock wore off, I said yes!

Too Close for Comfort

Two-and-a-half years after we started dating, Justin took me on an amazingly scenic stroll. At one point, he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. I said, “Of course! Yes!” And he took my hand and put on the ring. I leaned in to cuddle with my new fiance, and at the same time, he leaned in to kiss my forehead — this created a collision that ended with Justin getting a bloody nose. Fortunately, we got the bleeding under control long enough to tell everyone we knew we were engaged!

Lost and Found

I decided to take my bride-to-be back to the beach where we’d shared our first kiss and propose to her during sunset. I had the ring on my necklace because I thought it would be easier to take off, but I was a little nervous as I kneeled down, and when I tried to take it off, the necklace snapped. The next thing I remember: holding a broken necklace with no ring. We searched the sand inch by inch until nightfall, and then I decided we needed a metal detector. I quickly went out and bought one while my fiancee marked the spot, and it took us less than three minutes to locate the ring. Ticket to the pier: $2. Metal detector: $70. The feeling after we found the ring: Priceless.

Christmas Presents Wish List

I wanted to post this because Christmas is coming up. Last Year I spent my Christmas Holidays with Craig and his wonderful family and it was the best Christmas that I’ve ever experienced, I got every present I wanted and more!
