World Chaos and Choice Ignorance

This is Europe....the "Den of Lies and Corruption"

So this is a conversation that Alex and I just had on facebook, Alex and I often have conversations fueled by politics because Alex and Brian Colwell are both very passionate and fueled Realists who like to educate me on the world. I feel that I don’t mind thinking of the world as a good place and that I don’t mind sitting in dissolution till it finally melts, at least I’d have lived a happy life without too much worry. This conversation started with me telling Alex about how I’d be around in Minnesota till about April when I plan to finally move to Scotland. After hearing this news Alex feels that it is a great time for me to learn a little about Europe and it’s low birth rate situation. Then he tells me about Europe’s feelings toward certain religious peoples and we discuss racism. This is right after Alex tries to tell me about Switerland’s *New* National Socialist Party. Alex asks if I knew what the Nazis called their party because he claims that that Nazis are going to breakout in Europe yet again in another form. This is where this conversation beings…

Corinne
what?

1:38amAlex

I believe it was in the AP’s world politics.

The National Socialist Party.

1:38amCorinne:I was too tired to guess
1:38amAlex

Well, now you know.

Also, you heard about Switzerland banning the construction of minarets, right?
1:39amCorinne

nope

I’m not up to date on current news
1:39amAlex

Wow, that was all over the news about a month ago.
1:39amCorinne

sometimes the news depresses me

and I’m an optimist

what happened?
1:40amAlex

See, that’s why I read it. It’s because the world is a horrible, shitty, depressing place, and that’s the way it will always be, so I’ve come to terms with it.
1:40amCorinne

I mainly just follow local news because I have no cable or cnn

it will only be horrible and shitty if you make it that way

I like the world I’m creating for myself
1:41amAlex

The Swiss decided that it is now illegal to build minarets on buildings. These stutures are necessary in the construction of Muslim holy buildings.
1:42amCorinne

okay

so muslim people feel unwelcome?
1:42amAlex

You see, that’s the trouble. You optimists seem to think you can change the world, you think that the world is neutral. It’s not. It’s not some uncaring force that sits back and only watches. No. It’s actively out to get you.
1:42amCorinne

have you ever been to Europe?
1:42amAlex

Not unwelcome, they feel like their religion is going to be outlawed.

This is a personal attack agaisnt them. Several other EU nations praised the effort as “a tool against extremism” and are preparing to implement similar laws.
1:43amCorinne

that’s really sad
1:44amAlex

Put this in perspective: The US government passes a law saying that, henceforth, crosses may no longer be constructed in or on any buildings.
1:44amCorinne

that would be terrible
1:44amAlex

EXCACTLY.

*exactly
1:45amCorinne

I understand what’s going on

and how BIG IT IS

But I have no control

so I’m not worrying
1:45amAlex

Exactly. You’re helpless.

You can’t fight the tides of millions.

One little spark in the darkness is so easily missed, it may as well have not even been there.
1:46amCorinne

All I want to do is make money, move to Scotland, get married, have a nice career, make babies, raise children, and make the world a better place a little at a time
1:47amAlex

And it’s not just the Muslim situation. It’s also the economic situation: the impending implosion of their entire way of life.
1:47amCorinne

…being happy

that’s sad but I really don’t care that much

…truth
1:48amAlex

You see, knowledge of what is really going on does provide the power to change things, but it also proves just how absolutely pathetically pointless that same person is. How they cannot ever hope to fight the onslaught.

We know, so that those like you may live in blissful ignorance of what your world truly is.
1:51amCorinne

I don’t mind my personal blissful ignorance
1:51amAlex

Here’s the sit with the economy of Europe: Its a social welfare state. Which means that those without means are cared for. In the US, this works because there’s a time limit on how long one can receive benefits and one must actively be trying to better themselves. Not so in Europe. Their entire society is built upon leeching the system.
1:51amCorinne

I might educate others about it, I may not…it all depends on how much it will be affecting me
1:52amCorinne

leeching is not what I saw when I was there

no leeching whatsoever
1:53amAlex

A classic example of self-centered hedonism. “It doesn’t affect me, why should I care?” “You see, no help is coming. Because everyone in America will see this on TV and say, ‘Oh, that’s sad.’ and go right back to their dinners.”
1:53amCorinne

I saw many hardworking people trying to make ends meet
1:54amAlex

Pfah, you were in Scotland. One of the few sane places left on that whole damned continent.
1:55amAlex

You see, what happens when suddenly, the money to support all the welfare bums dries up? What happens when no one has money? When the best and the brighest leave daily for the US, because they know they’ll be paid MUCH better there than what they could ever make on the state-mandated salary for a doctor.
1:56amCorinne

Alex, when you start a group that can solve these problems I will join it and try to do my best to help you in it…till then I need to figure out how I’m going to balance my next few month’s income so I can be out of here with money left in my pocket for April.
1:57amCorinne

I’ll see when it comes but I know that Craig will be able to support me and that I can support myself and I don’t think I’ll feel it heavy
1:59amAlex

That’s just it, you can’t fix these problems. You would have to literally turn all of Europe upside-down, and guess what the modern European is? Reactionary. You see, you’ve only been amongst the rich bastards. You haven’t seen the lot of the common European. You were on the Isles. Go to the Continent. Go outside the old cities and bright lights. Visit the towns of France. Witness the ghettos of the major cities, where they stuff the unwanted refuse of Africa.

Honestly, Craig is not of average ways and means. He can go to Egypt for a goddamn casual vacation.
2:05amCorinne
I don’t want to visit ghettos, I want to make Posh Scottish Babies

Now here I’m not sure if anything was proven by me in choice ignorance, I feel that Alex was trying to Scare me a little about my choices when I possible move to Scotland. He might have succeeded, I’m not entirely sure what has been accomplished by this conversation or who has ‘won the debate’. All I know is that I feel a little like a terrible person right now and as soon as the conversation was over I thought that it would be appropriate to blog this conversation. What are your thoughts about the lesson learned or the accuracy of the information given?
