Reflection on my 2nd Celebrated Halloween

While surfing the web and check out Craig’s Flickr that hasn’t been updated much since the last time I looked at it I came across this picture that one of the McCreath’s took while on their last family vacation to Malta. I at first thought the picture was beautifully taken, in a kinda morbid artistic way. I wanted to find some way of including it on my Blog and when I was looking at it again I realized that it would be a great way to segway into my second experience celebrating Halloween in my life.

In an earlier post I wrote about how I’d never really celebrated Halloween because my parents told me that it was a bad Holiday and against our Christian Religion and a Pagan Holiday…After doing much research and getting advice from my spiritual friends in my Church Life Group (which includes my paster Matt Johnson) I discovered that other Christians in my church WERE and had celebrated Halloween their whole lives and this year.

It is important to understand that bad things do happen on Halloween but that you as a person involved in celebrating the Holiday are not commiting a sin by dressing up and going trick or treating. That is an understanding that I had to come to terms with in order to celebrate myself.

When I turned 18 the decision was mine to take and I spent my friend Halloween dressed as a Sexy Nurse at a co-worker’s party from while I was still working at Bobby and Steve’s Auto world. That was two years ago, last year I spent my Halloween night in my Dorm Room in Drew Hall, my plan had been to go to Hamline’s Annual Haunted Hallway which my former roommate Emily was a member. Emily and I at the time didn’t talk much and I wanted to go and support her and try to become friends with her. Instead of going I ended up staying in my dorm room talking to Craig on the phone all night about us finally becoming an official couple after being in a strange Infatuation stage in our relationship.

This year was our one year Anniversary of being a couple as boyfriend and girlfriend 8 months which we spent apart from each other in a long distance relationship. A lot has happened this past year while I’ve been away from Craig which has brought me to my current situation of spending most of my time looking for jobs on the internet that is provided at Leo’s house…in which my former high school classmate Tom resides. Leo and Tom have become good friends to me and I really like their company and wish i too could move into residence with them.

I spent My 2nd official Halloween with Tom and Leo going to Chipotle and then with Tom, Leo and Sophie Sim and Mutal friend of the boys who I met while at one of their famous parties.

Tom was a Golfer from the 1940s,

Sophie was a Green Witch,

While at Chipotle getting our Free Burritos for wearing Foil in our costumes we were surprised to bump into Leo’s friend Elisabeth (with an ‘s’) and Ember they were waiting in line a little ahead of us. Our plans had been to go to Chipotle then to head back to the house and have a mini get together with friends or to find a fun party, but Elisabeth and Ember told us about the costume party that was happening downtown at First Avenue (yes the same in purple rain) and we decided it would be more fun to go downtown and see them there.

We headed back to the house and waited for Sophie to arrive because she was trick or treating before we headed downtown. We played Halloween and Dirty Themed Scrabble while we waited and when Sophie arrived we decided to walk down to the light rail to head downtown.

It was cold outside but we talked and entertained ourselves with singing the Dick in the Box song while we waited.

We got Downtown and the line for First Ave was too long so we went to the Gay 90s instead…15$ per person and Tom paid for me…no one danced so we left…it was fun seeing all the people outside dressed up…kind of scary too! There were Cops Everywhere and they weren’t in control of the drunk crowd any.

We decided to continue walking in search of ice cream at Coldstone which ended up being closed…so we decided to leave and head back to the house at the Light rail we bumped into Ember and Elisabeth again and they told us that the party at first ave was really great and cheaper than they’d thought…5$!…I was disappointed that we hadn’t picked it.

We went back to the house on the last light rail and it was packed with drunk people in costumes I couldn’t help but laugh at the guy was kept falling asleep drunk while standing in front of me who would wake and smile at me then pass out again.

On our way back to the house Leo and I talked about something important…which I totally forget now and we considered going to a party Sophie’s friend was holding a few blocks away…we decided to settle in for the night with a movie “Saw V” which wasn’t scary but just gross and then go to bed…Leo leant me his Phone because i had church the next morning and needed to get up at 8 after going to bed at 3am…Fun right?
